Windows Update error 8024402c usually caused by setting the wrong proxy or firewall is preventing Windows Update Services connects Internet.
Step-by-Step as follows:
1. Delete characters from the proxy exception list and then clear the cache proxy.
Open "Internet Explorer", click "Internet Options" on the "Tools" menu, then click the "Connections" tab, click "LAN Settings", then click "Advanced".
Out the "Internet Explorer", click "Start", click "Run", type "cmd" and click "OK".
Type "proxycfg-d" "with the command net stop wuauserv" "net start wuauserv", after every commit command, press "Enter".

2. If the above does not work, try to enable the "Automatically detect settings" option in Internet Explorer.
Open "Internet Explorer", click "Internet Options" on the "Tools" menu. If the "Tools" menu is not available in Internet Explorer, press the ALT key to display the menu.
Click the "LAN Settings" on the tab "Connections", click next to select the "Automatically detect settings" check box, and then click "OK".
